D&J Convenience Store
During the summer of 2012, I got the opportunity to work as a shift manager for D&J Convenience Store. As a shift manager I managed up to three employees and delegated tasks including organization and administrative duties. I supervised all inventory shipments ranging from $70 to $1500 to ensure accuracy, I then organized the inventory throughout the store. Being a shift manager really helped me to learn how to effectively speak to your employees as a supervisor. I learned how to get employees to stay focus and to work hard. I also learned the importance of being accurate and making sure to always double check everything because what may seem like a very small error can become a big problem.
Bank of America
After graduating high school, in the summer of 2010 I became a teller for Bank of America. While working for Bank of America I was also attending The University of Texas at Arlington. This helped me to improve my time management skills. I learned how to manage doing my school work early and be punctual and focused at work. My first two weeks consisted of training on how to provide exceptional customer service and learning the company computer software, Merlin Teller. I was required to maintain and supervise a cash drawer of $24,000 and keep it in balance by using the company audit system. On a daily basis I would process deposits, withdraws, issue money orders, and many more customer banking transactions. I also performed all opening and closing procedures including inspecting the banking center to ensure bank safety. As a teller I got to learn how to handle difficult customers and convey information to them calmly and effectively. Every day I came into work I worked on my interpersonal skills with my customers and many of them I've become close with. I really go the chance to use my Korean skills to assist many Korean customers and make their experience at the bank more smooth and enjoyable. I would definitely say my experience as a teller was the most important employment.
Nike
As a sophomore in high school I got my first job as a sales representative for Nike Factory Store in Grapevine Mills Mall. I started out as a shipping and receiving associate, where I worked with a team in the bank and processed shipments. We processed daily shipments of 50-80 boxes of inventory into Nike's operating system. We then priced and hung all the inventory. On occasion we would run an inventory check to ensure our inventory showed the right products and correct number we had on hand. After a few months I moved out on the floor as a sales representative and worked directly with the customers. I made sure to provide excellent customer service by greeting every customer and asking questions to ensure they found the correct product. I communicated Nike promotions to customers to achieve daily store sale goals. As a Nike employee I got my first chance to work in a team oriented work place. I learned that not everyone is going to give their best all the time, and when that happens other members have to work harder to compensate. I also learned that communication between team members is very important, many times if we did not communicate a customer would be left unattended and that would result in a loss of sale. Nike gave me the foundation and taught me how to be a strong and effective team member.
